I will have the joy of opening the Holy Door on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception… On the day, the HOLY DOOR will become a DOOR MERCY through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons, and instills hope. (Pope Francis)
Inspired by the celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, here are quotations from Pope Francis and St. Marie Eugenie of Jesus on MERCY..
It is awesome that though separated by more than a hundred years, so similar in essence are their thoughts….

Pope Francis: Merciful like the Father, is the ‘motto’ of this Holy Year. In mercy, we find proof of how God loves us. He gives his entire self, always, freely, asking nothing in return. He comes to our aid whenever we call upon him… The assistance we ask for is already the first step of God’s mercy toward us. He comes to assist us in our weakness. And his help consists in helping us accept his presence and closeness to us. Day after day, touched by his compassion, we also can become compassionate towards others (# 14) ---------------------------------- My thoughts now turn to the Mother of Mercy. Her entire life was patterned after the presence of mercy made flesh… May she never tire of turning her merciful eyes upon us, and make us worthy to contemplate the face of mercy, her son Jesus… (#24).. In this Jubilee year, may the Church echo the Word of God that resounds strong and clear as a message and a sign of pardon, strength, aid, and love. May she never tire of extending mercy, and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort. (#25) ---------------------------------- The Church is commissioned to announce the mercy of God, the beating heart of the Gospel. Her language and her gestures must transmit mercy, so as to touch the hearts of all people and inspire them once more to find the road that leads to the Father. … In any work, wherever there are Christians, everyone should find an oasis of mercy. (#12) The mercy of God is his loving concern for each one of us. he feels responsible; that is, he desires our wellbeing and he wants to see us happy, full of joy, and peaceful. This is the path which the merciful love of Christians must also travel.. Just as he is merciful, so we are called to be merciful to each other. (#9) | St. Marie Eugenie: Sometimes, people say that the rights of God are crushing. I have never been able to understand this. On the contrary, it seems to me that the rights God has over us are rights of love and mercy. Is the right to be believed by us a right that crushes? Does it not rather, uplift and fulfill us (3.3.1878) ------------------------------------------ May the charity reign among you, friends, in the same sprit in which Jesus Christ related to people during His earth life; in the spirit of the Blessed Virgin, which was one of mercy, peace, goodness, and devotedness. This is what the spirit of the Assumption asks of us.. (4.21.1878) ------------------------------------------ If it is a question of doctrines, always prefer those in which God is most honored and appears greater and more lovable; and you will not be mislead. False doctrines almost always present God as terrifying. He is, but His mercy overrides His justice and His goodness is the basis of all His works. God is just in regard to us, but the essence of His being is self-communication and goodness. To give glory to God, always believe in what gives God the greatest glory and shows Him as the most lovable and loving in all your devotions, thoughts, and convictions. Only accept ideas which render God greater, more gentle, more trusting and more perfect. (5.12.1878) |
